Founder of GAST, Adam Sullivan, is taking his event series to a whole new level, focusing on hard techno, a genre he hasn’t showcased before.
Launching in 2019, GAST filled a gap in the local music scene.
“In 2019 when there was nothing happening in the local area music wise, I decided to create GAST,” Adam said.
“GAST is just four of my favourite letters and I put them in like that order because it sort of sounds like the word gassed. As in gassed. They pretty much sound the same.”
The Next GAST Event: Go Hard or Go Home
What started as an event focused on bringing people together, has now evolved into something different and more ambitious, a hard techno event.
The theme, Hard or Go Home refers to the night’s bold motto.
Adam said: "It’s basically stating that if you aren’t into really hard, heavy music, you might as well stay at home."
The event will be structured in a way that takes pundits on a musical journey. With the event starting off fairly slow and over time becoming funkier, back to chilled and then progressing to heavier music.
Currently details about the lineup are under wraps, however Adam has some excited plans he will hopefully announce soon.
He said: “I have some ideas about some people coming over from a different country. I’m not going to say too much about it, and maybe some people coming from other parts of the UK, but right now I’m not going to give away too many details just yet.”
The main element of the event will be the powerful sound system provided by Greenman Hi-Fi, a local Teesside Soundsystem.
Adam said: "So Greenman Hi-Fi have been pretty much involved since the start. They’re a dub focused sound system which kind of like why we use them.
“Their sound system can reach pretty low frequencies which when you are playing bass heavy music and music with a lot of lower end frequencies, having a sound system that can deliver those frequencies is very important, and Greenman Hi-Fi were the perfect guys for it really.
“Simon who engineers the sound really knows what he’s doing, and he really cares about it as well you can tell. He will happily stay there all night and make sure the sound is perfect all night.”
The Future of GAST
As for the future of GAST, Adam remains uncertain on it.
He said: "The future of GAST is fairly uncertain if I’m honest. I had put it into retirement, but I’ve missed it so that’s why I have ended up doing this event now.
"Since I've announced this event I have had new venues popping up and offering their space. I’m not sure whether there is going to be another one.
"I wasn’t planning to do another but with all these interesting venues offering their space it does kind of interest me a bit. So, I guess we will see.”
For those attending GAST for the first time, Sullivan has some practical advice: “If this is your first ever GAST, my main advice would be to dress comfortably.
"You don’t want to be wearing something that is going to restrict your movement. You are going to want to be comfortable dancing.”
Promising a night of high energy, and techno, GAST is one you don’t want to miss.
